Boulder Real Estate-In Praise of Louisville

WINNER 2011 Top 100 rank: 1
Population: 18,400
Unemployment:6.3%Compare Louisville to Top 10 Best Places

The report highlights small towns across America with populations of 50,000 or less, high job opportunities, fiscal strength, excellent schools, safe streets, great health care, outdoor and cultural activities and 300 days of sunshine (great weather).

The writer says it is a “sunny lively mountain town”; it is not a mountain town. While the views are great of the front range, Louisville is mostly in a valley and is situated on the “plains.”  I agree with “crime rates are among the lowest in Colorado” and the town is “easy to navigate.”  Louisville boasts lots of good jobs in tech, telecom, aerospace, clean energy, alternative energy and health care and many companies are relocating to the area as happy workers are great workers. In addition there are  world-class mountain biking, hiking, and skiing nearby as well as in the close by Rockies. Housing prices are still lower than Boulder real estate and schools rank well and are in the top three academically. Not everyone wants to live in Louisville;  however given the Music Festival, the Farmers Market, Street Faire, the great little mom and pop restaurants that have been here some since the 50’s and Main St. Louisville, what’s not to like? Read Money Magazine article. Ps. Superior Colorado came in at 20/100!

Morning Perfection

Posted by Michael Hughes   June 5, 2010

I was on a 5 mile run the other morning with a friend of mine.  Demian is a fellow runner and an all around good guy. Competent, smart, tough and has a beautiful wife Kathryn.  Running this morning at 6 a.m. was inspiring, about the 3rd mile when we went over a fence to find a longer path the sun was rising and the clouds were shooting rays of gold. The water sparkled like no other morning. I could hear the pelicans on the pond. What a great and wonderful time of the morning. The gratitude I felt for this morning was somewhat overwhelming. The appreciation for the quiet, the moment, cold air going into my lungs, legs moving effortlessly. My lungs working better than ever, after having encountered a bout of pneumonia during the winter that seemed would never leave. The hills came and we mowed them down one by one. Morning runs, the better they get, the better they get. Perfection in less than an hour.

Future Jobs Near Boulder-ConocoPhillips

Future Jobs Near Boulder-ConocoPhillips

Written by Michael Hughes            December  12,  2009

ConocoPhillips has said that their 20-year plan calls for the employment of more than 7,000 people a workforce that will include current employees and new hires at the site. The center will be looking at the next generation of transportation fuels and they will research, algae, wind power, photo voltaic, clean diesel, biomass and hydrogen fuel cells. There will eventually be a learning center to train employees from more than 40 countries. CP also signed a $5 million, multiyear, sponsored research agreement with a Colorado biofuels center including University of Colorado-Boulder to find new ways to convert biomass into low-carbon transportation fuels.  Among the first projects in the renewable energy portfolio will be the research and utilization of converting algae into renewable fuel. This is the separation and purification of lipids that are taken from algae, and can then be sent to oil refineries to be processed into gasoline. Algae have a rapid growth rate, but it doesn’t take food away from people or livestock – which is currently what is being done when farmers sell their corn crops to produce ethanol. The algae could even be grown in hostile environments such as deserts where nothing else will grow.

ConocoPhillips on November 12, 2009 submitted construction plans for its 450 acre campus in Louisville, a bedroom community of Boulder.  ConocPhillips plans to build 1.6 million square feet of office, research, support services, food outlets, childcare and hotel space. Some of the buildings will reach 95 feet or around 5 stories.  215 acres will be slated for open space. The initial phase of the construction is scheduled to be ready by 2013.

The attraction to being near Boulder is so clear.  It is an exclusive collection of lifestyles, fitness, climate, location, geography, the university, schools, the town’s character, the education level, and its rich and varied population.  Boulder is the best place in the world to thrive.
