Boulder Real Estate-In Praise of Louisville

WINNER 2011 Top 100 rank: 1
Population: 18,400
Unemployment:6.3%Compare Louisville to Top 10 Best Places

The report highlights small towns across America with populations of 50,000 or less, high job opportunities, fiscal strength, excellent schools, safe streets, great health care, outdoor and cultural activities and 300 days of sunshine (great weather).

The writer says it is a “sunny lively mountain town”; it is not a mountain town. While the views are great of the front range, Louisville is mostly in a valley and is situated on the “plains.”  I agree with “crime rates are among the lowest in Colorado” and the town is “easy to navigate.”  Louisville boasts lots of good jobs in tech, telecom, aerospace, clean energy, alternative energy and health care and many companies are relocating to the area as happy workers are great workers. In addition there are  world-class mountain biking, hiking, and skiing nearby as well as in the close by Rockies. Housing prices are still lower than Boulder real estate and schools rank well and are in the top three academically. Not everyone wants to live in Louisville;  however given the Music Festival, the Farmers Market, Street Faire, the great little mom and pop restaurants that have been here some since the 50’s and Main St. Louisville, what’s not to like? Read Money Magazine article. Ps. Superior Colorado came in at 20/100!

Boulder Spring

Posted by Michael Hughes   April 15, 2010

I was walking through the Boulder Farmers Market on Saturday with my girlfriend. It was a balmy 70 degrees, people were out in droves after a punishing winter where snow lingered and coughs stayed for an unusually and unwelcome month or so longer.  We picked up Papusa’s at Mama Marias, they are a handmade stuffed corn tortilla and absolutely delicious. The stalls with greens and herbs were inviting, the little tomato plants ready to go into the warmly sunned earth, I got my Shun knives sharpened in anticipation.  Spring is here, the trees are starting to get that fuzzy green before they leaf out, the wind is blowing, the planting season is upon us. Boulder, the best and only place in the world to enjoy the Spring.

Got Leafy Greens?

Posted by Michael Hughes  April 5, 2010

Boulder’s Farmers Market returned on Saturday April 3. I for one have missed the leafy greens, strawberries, peaches, bok choy, potatoes, flowers and much more.  Of course not all is in season on the local scene yet, but it will be. The word on the street is that the Boulder Farmers Market may go year round starting as early as 2011 and it also may expand to more days than just Saturdays and Wednesdays.  Heralding the end of winter I am quite happy it’s here finally. When I was thinking I was going to buy a home in Boulder it was more of a lifestyle choice than one dictated by relocation for a job or a second home.  The Boulder Farmers Market contributed to my choosing to live in Boulder.

Louisville, Colorado Named Top Place to Live

By Michael Hughes

Population: 19,405
Median home price (2006): $322,812
Average property taxes (2006): $1,979
Pros: Historic downtown; Farmers Markets, Running, hiking, biking, outdoor concerts (summer)  and skiing
Cons: Technology -heavy economy with a side of Bio Tech

Louisville was founded in 1882 and the iconic buildings give the town a feel of downtowns of long ago.  Near Boulder, Colorado. Where you can check out a house in Boulder, Boulder Real Estate or Homes in Louisville.  Louisville’s economy is nouveau tech: Technology firms are the area’s mainstay (IBM, Sun Micro, Ball, Level 3, Amgen  and more).  Not to mention the upcoming ConocoPhillips alternative energy campus in the works.  Louisville is only 6 miles from Boulder and 22 from Denver. Outdoor living at its best.  Panoramic views of the front range Rocky Mountains abound.  Louisville’s 26-mile wooded biking and running path winds through much of the town. On summer Friday nights, residents head to the downtown Louisville Street Faire, for concerts, entertainment,  artisans, beer and food. Saturdays head to the farmers market or in July the summer film series.  A great place to live with excellent restaurants that have been here forever.  Solid deals, nice people, all American type of town.
Home prices are up recently because this is one of the greatest places in America to live.  Family friendly.  A cool place to thrive.  It can snow one day and be gone the following day.  As Garrison Keillor says “where all the women are strong, the men are good looking and the children are above average.”
